Took the fuses from the original 5Jr's (1 amp, 250V fast-blo), and then great sound happened. Further inspection, and I realized the old fuses were blown. Got the speakers set up, but was disappointed the tweeters were out. I managed to get the 7B's dirt cheap (but a bit of a drive) when someone no-showed the seller. This all started after a pair of 5Jr +'s (series II 5Jr) turned out to really be just one good speaker, and I wanted to find replacement woofers and tweeters. and this week, 7B with the Peerless tweeters. Sheer luck in the past month has got me inexpensive pairs of Well, now I've got way more Polk Monitor speakers than I know what do with. I can't understand how a speaker that small can sound so powerful. There's just something magical about all the the polk speakers described in this thread. When I hooked them up to my pioneer SX 950 reciever, I was blown away. They had white paint on them in places (thats why they were under $20) but cleaned up nicely. I bought one of the smaller pairs for my son and he won't let them out of his sight.I also found a pair of 5 jrs with dark wood cabs. Other polks I have found are also incredibly good. I'm talking about completely satisfying high quality sound that I can listen to for hours on end and am reluctant to turn it off. I had them hooked up to a Adcom 60 watt per channel amp and they sounded just as good as they do with the Soundcraftsman. These speakers are as good as any I have ever heard and do an incredible job on really low bass. Since I needed another pair of speakers like a hole in the head, I passed on them but of course, later decided I had to have them. Last year I saw a pair of 10bs with a beautiful mint walnut finish for $100. ![]() Got them in a pawn shop for a song but they don't have the real walnut cabs. My 10b's are hooked up to a 250 wpc soundcraftsman power amp and do they ever sing. I collect high end vintage speakers, mainly jbl, marantz pioneer, technics and polk.
